Question:

Luke 22:31
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you"

It sounds like there are discussions between God and Satan. I can't believe this but Jesus said it. I would have imagined God in His realm and Satan in his. But it seems there are connections. Can you elaborate on this subject?

Thank you so much.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Macha:

There is nothing unusual about Satan speaking with God. It is only in Hollywood movies that the devil is incapable of talking with God or entering a Church and the like.

Two examples from the Bible that come to mind at the moment, other than the reference you gave, is when Satan tempted Jesus, and when Satan negotiated with God about Job. The discussions with God in the case of Job were rather extensive and repeated asking God permission to harass Job.

While demons do not like to be in the direct presence of God or in the presence of holy objects, they are not prevented from doing so and some will do so at times.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
