Can I ever become Catholic? Marcella Sunday, May 3, 2009

Question:

Ive been a Theistic Satanist for 4 and a half years. I am starting to realize that worshipping Satan is wrong. I was baptised Catholic when I was 2 months old, but thats the last time ive been in a Christian church. My whole family is actually devout Roman Catholics, but they gave me the choice of my religion as long as it was Christian but I decided to be a Satanist. I never talked about religion around them so they just figured I was Agnostic. Can I ever be Catholic? How?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Marcella:

I praise God that you asked the question. The answer is Yes. If you are honestly and genuinely interested in giving up Satanism and embracing Jesus Christ and His Church, then you can return to the Catholic Church.

What you need to do is to approach a local parish priest and tell him you are interested in being Confirmed in the Catholic Church. You will then go through some instruction to be sure you understand what it means to be Catholic and understand Catholic teaching. This instruction may be individual or in a class, perhaps next Fall.

If you understand Catholic teaching and still wish to become Catholic after your instruction then you may be confirmed in the Catholic Church and be a full member.

You will need to agree with all the teachings that the Church proposes that must be believed, such as teachings against abortion, contraception, sexual morality (sex only in marriage), and of course the dogmas of the Faith such as those concerning the nature of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ),  and God the Holy Spirit and the other points found in the Nicene Creed.

Let me be among the first to welcome you to this pilgrimage into the loving arms of Jesus Christ and His Church.

Check with your local parish priest and he should be able to guide you from there.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
