Question:

Dear Brother,

For many years my family and I have been going thru one problems after another...From health problems to marriage problems and now to money problems..My husband is a Buddhist. I have been married to him for 9 yrs now and till today I am praying for his conversion till the extend I really give up....

I have this very strong feeling that he is bonded by something that is preventing his conversion..preventing us from going to church togather as a family. Late Last year, he was feeling lost and for the first time he stepped into a church to pray. He was having his own financial difficulty and was lost in his job...He told me that he had a strong connection to Mother Mary and felt comforted when he sees her. However he still cant feel anything for Christ even till today...he doesn't go to church with me..He just goes as and when he feels like it. He even made a promise to convert...if his prayers were answered...(of coz Mother Mary did answer his cries for help) but at times I still dont get it..

He says he promise to convert but there are times there he goes to the temple to pray....??I really cannot understand what is going on with him. Is this right? Tried to talk to him abt conversion. God has blest him with a good job and someone has helped him to solve his part of his financial problem' He always tells me he can't connect with Christ and honestly I am tired of listening to the same old excuse..I dont even feel like talking about the topic about coversion anymore with him.I just feel that something is preventing my husband's conversion and that force is very strong...

I am praying very hard...I never force him, but when I heard he promised to convert last year I was happy but then my hopes were dampen coz when I open the topic about conversion..He always says his not ready. Is there a prayer for one's conversion especially if the person is from a different faith..?? Appreciate your advise.thks.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear D:

We will certainly be in prayer for your husband's conversion. But, he cannot be forced to convert, of course, and he shouldn't convert unless he truly wants to and has come to a faith in Christ.

What you need to do is to pray for him and never cease to pray for him. Let the Holy Spirit to the convincing. Your job is not to convince, but to pray, and if he asks questions about the Catholic faith, then to answer those questions.

Here is a prayer that may be useful:

Trusting in the promise that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus' name He will do, I now approach you Father with confidence in Our Lord's words and in Your infinite power and love for me and for     [husband/wife, person's name]    . With the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Archangel Michael, Sts. Bruno, Benedict, Padre Pio, and Monica, and the guardian angels of myself and     [person's name]    , with all the saints and angels of heaven, and Holy in the power of the blessed Name of Your Son, I ask you Father to send forth Your Spirit to convince     [person's name]     of the Truth of Your Presence, that he/she may come to a saving faith in your Son, Jesus Christ, and that he/she may seek conversion to the Faith and to Your Church.

Father I ask in sorrow, knowing that You do not intrude upon free will, but that You can give Divine Influence like you did with Hosea's wife, that You send a hedge of thorns and wall around     [person's name]     so that he/she cannot find the paths that lead him/her away from You and Your Son and the Church, and though he/she shall pursue other faiths and philosophies that he/she will not find them intellectually satisfying; though he/she shall seek other faiths and philosophies he/she shall not find them spiritually attractive; that no matter what path or what faith or philosophy he/she seeks he/she shall not find satisfaction or happiness until he/she comes to You Lord, through your Son, Jesus Christ and be taught by your Holy Spirit the true meaning of faith in the true God.

Father, I am powerless against these spiritual forces and recognize my utter dependence on You and Your power. Look with mercy upon me and upon my wife/husband/friend. Do not look upon his/her sins, O Lord; rather, look at the sufferings of your Beloved Son and see the Victim who's bitter passion and death that allows him/her to be reconciled us to You.

By the victory of the Cross, protect    [person's name]     from all evil and rebuke any evil spirits who are attacking or influencing him/her in any way. Father, I especially ask that you rebuke, bind, and cast out all evil spirits that seek to keep    [person's name]     in spiritual and intellectual blindness or bondage or that otherwise keeps him/her from seeking, or accepting You and Your Son. Send these evil spirits back to Hell and place a wall of protection around    [person's name]    . Protect him/her from all human and spiritual influences that might provide a stumblingblock to his/her conversion to the one True God, through Christ Jesus, and to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Send your Holy Angels to watch over and protect him/her.

Father, all of these things I ask in the most holy name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer. I love You, I worship You, I thank You and I trust in You. Amen.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
