offered food (prasads) given from hindu temples Francis Monday, November 3, 2008

Question:

My close Hindu friends may some times bring prasads(offered food) from their temples? I just take them thinking that it is like any other food( St paul says about it- that there is no idol and food, as such, is not made impure by it(1Corinthians 8: 4–6) ) ?Brother can I take these offered foods (prasads) given from Hindu temples? Can I beleive that there is no evil influence on it and it will not affect me if I take it for friendship sake, after saying a deliverance prayed on it? ( My firm belief is that propagating a fear about it and keeping me away from it out of fear is improper for a baptised catholic). Please clarify.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Francis:

Well, you answered your own question. St. Paul says yes, we can eat food offered to idols.

Bless the food as usual and enjoy.

However, do not accept food from witches and other occultist as it may be adulterated in the casting of spells and curses.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
