Question: Dear Brother, I was just curious if you've ever heard of anyone getting into serious spiritual trouble with all the so called harmless stuff that goes on at Halloween, and what you think of the "holiday" in general. Thanks and God bless, Kayla

Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Kayla: Yes, there have been many people who have gotten themselves in big trouble spiritually, and sometimes even legally, through their involvement in Halloween activities. Some of the "mischief" inspired by Halloween breaks the law. Also sometimes people get hurt by this mischief. When that happens we are talking about a lot more than a little vandalism. Spiritually, when people mess with things like Ouija boards they can find themselves demonized. In some cases, when someone is on the edge already just indulging oneself in the demonic/ghoulish/witchy/ghostly environment can lead to spiritual trouble. St. Paul tells us that we are not to indulge in even the "appearance" of evil, let alone practice evil. If we play in Satan's Sandbox we WILL get hell's sand in our shoes.
