Question:

Brother, I wasn't sure whether or not this was something I should post but I would like your opinion on this.

In 1991 I was at a trade show with my mother. We used to go there often because my grandmother was a vendor there. At the time I had developed a sudden acne problem which I had never had before. A man approached me at this show and this is what he said, "Young Lady, I hope you don't mind me saying this but I saw you across the room and noticed you have a pretty bad acne problem."

Of course I was offended and turned around to walk away but he kept tagging along behind me begging me to listen to his story. He told me that he had this wonderful product that would cure my acne and other skin problems. He told me that God woke him up one morning and flashed some formula on the wall. I started laughing and he said "You may think it's funny but I beg you to just think about trying it and you'll see it's no joke." He handed me a brochure with all of these testimonials on this so-called annointed product. It was peppered with all kinds of references to God and made to sound so spiritual.

I gave it to my Dermatologist who was suspicious and was going to check it out stating it might be illegal.

All through the nineties he was trying to get his business off the ground. My grandmother used these products and swore by them. I wanted nothing to do with them and was always suspicious of these claims. He eventually became "famous" and started selling these products worldwide. I've heard so many people swear by these products and all of it's so-called healing powers.

My question is whether or not it is spiritually safe to use a product that was developed in this manner especially from someone who has no background in chemistry or the manufacturing of these products and claiming it was coming from God?

What was really sinister was that this individual used to drive an expensive vehicle with a fake life-sized alligator attached to the front grill with a fake bloody severed hand protruding out of the mouth. I guess they thought it was funny?

I won't name the product but as far as I know it is still being manufactured and so many people swear by it.

Thank you and God Bless!

Dear Stacey:

You should not use any product that has not been scientifically tested. All those "testimonials" are called anecdotal evidence. They mean nothing, and they could be made up.

We need to know what substances are in that product and if there is any medical harm or side-effects that could result.

This guy is just a hawker (a snake oil salesman).

I do not think God "anoints" cosmetics. It is possible for someone to have an inspiration which comes from their own intellect. It is also possible in rare instances where God gives an inspiration. But, I do not think God gives inspirations for a cosmetic product so that this fella can exploit the public and make a lot of money. God does not work that way.

I would run far away from this guy and his product.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
