Question: I read with interest your response to Kayla's 9-10-2008 question on "Blasphemous thoughts". This has been the topic of a few posts from various posters and titles. If I am not misinterpreting the content, I believe Book I, Chapter IV, prgph III of St John of the Cross' DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL discusses the snares of such thoughts. Everyone's advice seems to be the same, pray. Given that one fights off these thoughts, doesn't dwell on them or act upon them, then my question is....."are these fleeting thoughts, planted by Satan, a sin?" |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Rob: Such thoughts can be sourced in the normal concupiscence of man, an obsessive psychological condition, or a demonic influence. Regardless of source, if fleeting and not indulged it is not a sin. God Bless,
