Financial oppression? Kayla Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Question:

Dear Brother,

Do you think there is such a thing as financial (spritual) oppression? If so what can I do?

Thank you very much and God bless you,

Kayla

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Kayla:

It is possible to have a spiritual oppression that effects one's financial life. There are many ways that this can happen. Since you don't give a specific, my answer will be general.

The solution is the same as it is with any oppression or other bondage of the Enemy:

  1. Any sin needs to be confessed
  2. Attachment to the sin needs to be renounced and the ground taken by the devil reclaimed (see Prayer Catalog)
  3. Steps must be taken to not commit the sin again
  4. Avoid the near occasion of sin
  5. Mortify bad habits
  6. Cultivate good habits
  7. Clean up one's life of any "hooks" (past or present) that the Enemy can use as an excuse to hang on to your life (See the Seven Steps of Self-Deliverance on the HELP page linked below)
  8. Practice detachment from material things
  9. Practice abandonment to the will of God
  10. Live the Good Catholic life as best as you can (Mass, adoration, devotions, etc.) living out your faith in love and good works.
  11. Use spiritual warfare prayers whenever needed.
  12. Persevere. God knows and understands the situation and is with you through your time of trial.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
