Question: Dear Brother, Several months ago I attended a nice orthodox Catholic charismatic prayer meeting, which helped me spiritually. I was much more prayerful and more patient, charitable,etc. This meeting is held once a month and seems like there's always something that happens that keeps me from going. I either get sick, or have some other problem. Sometimes I have really strong temptations right before day of the meeting. Do you think this could be a spiritual issue or simply my own weak self? Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Anon: Experiences like this are common. Anytime we do something that enriches our faith the Enemy may try to spoil it or try to get in the way. Baring some psychological reason for your experience, it is certainly possible the Enemy is trying to keep you from going to the meeting because he does not want you to benefit from them. I would advise the Hedge of Protection Prayer and also the Rebuking Particular Spirits prayer found in our Prayer Catalog linked below. For the Rebuking prayer, refer to the evil spirits by their attribute. You can refer to these spirits that are keeping you from the meeting in multiple ways, such as: spirit of illness spirit who wishes to keep me from the meeting spirit of this _______ temptation spirit of __________ (whatever is happening) Also pray the St. Michael Prayer and the Canticle of Mary.
