Question:

The Peace of Christ be with you,

I am a fairly avid reader and shop at bookstores,or did, with some regularity.Something that troubles me about most of these stores is that they have a section on the occult including satanism (not just studies about but actual advocates and practioners of) .While I would never buy or read such books,I was wondering if buying books at all in these stores was dangerous, perhaps a sin ?

Thank you and God Bless - Frank

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Frank:

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Buying occult books, in some cases even if the book is not read, can be spiritually dangerous. Certainly reading occult books will be spiritually dangerous.

As for buying other more suitable books from a bookstore that happens to also have an occult or new age section somewhere is not a problem. Just stay out of the occult section.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

P.S. It should be noted that Christians ought to stay out of occult bookstores completely. Those places can actually have demons attached to them. But regular bookstores are okay.
