Question:

Do you think that the tragedies that the Kennedy family has experienced over the years could possibly be an example of a generational curse? Just curious.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Stacey:

I do not know enough about the Kennedy family to answer that. There is nothing particular spectacular about the tragedies they have experienced.

While it might seem the family has been cursed, all that has happened to them falls within the realm of natural consequences for behavior or coincidence.

Joseph dying in the war is hardly remarkable. The assassinations of John and Robert are tragic but given the times is something that happens, Teddy's problem was self-caused, and the most recent death of Robert Jr? or whoever it was in the plane crash is not remarkable. These are risk-taking activities -- presidential politics and flying airplanes. Even the behavior of Teddy, while nothing to be condoned, given all that he and the family went though is to some degree understandable. I can understand the stress, grief, and pressures that can lead one to irresponsible behavior.

I see no reason to think there is a "curse". I just see a family who has put themselves out there and when anyone does that they risk tragedy.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
