Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius Mary:

Thanks for the advice. To be honest, the last time I had any sort of dream like that was well over a year ago, and also, the funny thing is, I never felt scared, only closer to God after having one of these dreams.

My reflex was to turn immediately to prayer, both in the dream and after.

I do do a similar bedtime prayer, a habit that my father instilled in me when I was 3 years of age.

I probably have been reading too many comic books! But in any case, anything can become a portal to sin or vice, if one is not careful, and that's why I was concerned.

The first "dream" happened back when I was 14, when, in anger, I challenged Satan to fight me (REALLY STUPID, you don't have to tell me) and even said at 5pm -- and sure enough he showed up that evening, and I got hit by a car, and had this vision of Satan (his face and eyes changing colours and he had a wicked smile -- not sure if it really was he but he said he was) gloating over how he would make my life miserable.

Suddenly, the overwhelming presence of God and a great light appeared, and I realized what I had done and repented. Wearing armour and surrounded by angels and that light, I only felt overwhelmed by God's mercy and love. Satan, looking actually panicked, vanished and I awoke to discover I really had been hit by a car.

I prayed for "deliverance" from this, but maybe I did something wrong?

Again, I haven't had any demonic dreams in over a year, and before that, maybe 10 years before that. At that time maybe having associated with Protestant "charismatics" (not as a church member but I know they were praying for me to leave the "Whore of Babylon" Catholic Church) and maybe if these were attacks, they were a result of these misguided people?

Either way, being pushed into prayer and deepening one's gratefulness and love to God as a result, I never felt these were nightmares, maybe "training" for vocations.

Thanks again!

Love in Christ,
TIM

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Tim:

Well you certainly did do something stupid in challenging Satan directly. While you were rescued from him, it sounds like by an angel, and while you repented of that, it is possible that residue remains.

God can make sweet lemonade from even the worst lemons we grow in our lives. It sounds if God has done that for you. Praise God. Nevertheless, the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance would be a wise thing to do to make sure you have all the residue from these past events cleaned-up.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
