doing research... joseph Sunday, February 17, 2008

Question:

brother ignatius,

i am doing a research proving the incompatibility of the occult and Christianity.

i read some essays of occultists to get their own definition of the occult but i did not whatsoever read further than what i have to get from those essays for i know that occultism is full of lies of the demon. i just have to take some of their definitions so that my rsearch wll not be one-sided.

is what i am doing fine or am i putting myself in an occassion of sin?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Joseph:

It is not a sin to research the occult, but it can be imprudent and dangerous.

Is this "research" project for a thesis in school? Or is it for a article you will be publishing? Or is it mere personal curiosity?

Many people come to me saying they are "researching" the occult, but in reality they are just curious. They take a risk at such curiosity.

If you are doing legitimate research as long as you are careful and read only what you need to meet the needs of the research, you should be okay.

Remember, however, who you are in Christ and stay grounded on that rock when reading material from the enemy. Be sure to pray for protection before reading the material.

If you feel drawn to occultic philosophy, then stop your research and pick a new project.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
