Does this have a demonic ring to it? Ed Thursday, January 24, 2008

Question:

A very close business partner, friend , of the Lutheran faith, married a woman of the Lutheran faith, 21 years ago. She was involved in a previous relationship just before meeting my partner. The man she was involved with claimed to have a power he called “instant rage” that he could unleash on a person of his choosing.

Seven years after the marriage began my partner experienced debilitating back problems. After three surgeries, an infection and an morphine pump implanted in his side he is struggling to lead an active lifestyle with much pain. Seven years after his problem stabilized his wife was struck with similar physical problems accompanied with physiological issues, three surgeries, depression and bipolar has been mentioned. She is still battling the effects to this day.

His son has been a sickly child for all of his nine years in this world. This past week his son had his tonsils removed, I didn't think they did this procedure any more. Now seven years later I have started down that medical road of potentially serious back problems and with no apparent cause, out of no ware.

My partner and I have praying together for almost all of the past seven years. We make good use of your prayer catalog and his devotion to the Blessed Mother is good for a non Catholic.

Does this have a demonic ring to it?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Ed:

There is no way for me to tell that without a LOT more information. The development of these medical problems can obviously have many natural explanations.

In any event, it is possible for demons to cause disease and for a person to place a curse on someone to effect illness, but there is no way I can even guess about this without detailed histories of the people involved and even then a definitive answer is not likely.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
