paranormal experiences | Jay | Sunday, December 16, 2007 |
Question: Dear Bro.Ignatius I have written before and appreciate your taking the time to answer. I have heard, seen, and read many stories of people experiencing 'paranormal' events. Seeing ghosts, spirits, shadows, objects flying about the room, I believe in Almighty God, I attend mass reguarly, pray the Rosary very often, does this offer some sort of protection from these 'so called' events? Sometimes I get curious and wonder why these things 'don't happen to me? Then I began to think, oh I am blessed because they don't. Could you give me some input on this? Sincerely, Jay. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Jay: There was an old Baptist preacher who once said, "The best way to keep the devil out of your life is to keep Jesus in your life." Certainly, living the good Catholic life in worship and devotion and prayer provides many layers of protection for you. It is not a guarantee, however. Remember that Job was harassed by the devil through no fault of his own. Harassment from the devil can come because we have done something to invite it or to facilitate it (such as committing sin or participation in things that attract the demonic), because others perpetrate it upon us (such as a curse), or because God allows it to test and strengthen our faith. But, certainly, in general, living the good devotional, worshipful, and loving life of Christ distances oneself from the devil's clutches. Being a good Christian, however, can also attract the devil in that when he sees your devotion he will try to ruin it. The devil can only do that if God allows him and if God allows it then most likely it is to test and strengthen your faith. Be careful in your curiosity. That alone can attract harassment. Be thankful, rather, that you are blessed by not being on the devils radar. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page.
