Question: barring sunday mass i have no interaction with committed catholics. how do i move into fuller communion with the holy catholic church i have been hated because of my caste in india.i am now in the uk but old hurts are unhealed
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Newton: I am sorry to hear about the bad treatment you received in India. The caste system, I believe, is evil, but that is the way it is in India. Perhaps it will change someday. But, you are not in India any longer. You are in the United Kingdom. If you wish to be more involved in your parish it should not be a problem. Do not let your wounds from India follow you to the UK; the UK is not India. As for Communion with the Catholic Church, that is accomplished by the Sacraments, belief in Catholic teaching, and fidelity to the Pope and Magisterium. I think what you are meaning is how you can have greater fellowship with the people of your parish. You can begin by something simple like going to after-Mass fellowships if your parish has them. It is common in the United States to offer a time of fellowship after Mass with donuts and coffee in the parish hall. Maybe your parish has a similar activity. In addition to that check out other activities in your parish such as Bible studies, prayer groups, and the like. That is a great way get to know the people and to develop friendships. And finally, you can check about other volunteer work the parish may offer. In general, begin looking for opportunities to meet people and remember that there is not caste system in the UK.
