God's Will... | Bryon | Monday, October 29, 2007 |
Question: Thank you for answering my question from before. With me reading your answer, I have another question. In your answer concerning the post of Fwd: 23 Minutes In Hell, you gave me a reference of (Matt. 7, 21-23). I was just wanting to ask you, what exactly is God's Will? If you could, (which I believe you could cause you're the man), tell me in the bible where it says what God's Will is. What does God Will us to do? Thank You And God Bless!!! |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Bryon: God's will is known is several ways. The first and most important way is that through the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church (God's appointed official teachers and guardians of the Faith) and through God's Revelation (the Bible and Sacred Tradition). All other analysis of God's will is derived from the above. God's will for you in particular I cannot know. That is for you to discern, but we do know that whatever God's will is for you it will NEVER be contrary to the Bible, Sacred Tradition, or the Magisterial interpretations of that Revelation. You must ask God and listen to the still small voice in prayer, look for opportunities that God presents in your life, look for clues that lead you in one direction as oppose to another. All this must be consistent with the principles and teachings of the Bible and the Church, of course. For example, it is God's will that we not have sex unless we are married (that is, a marriage between a man and a woman). Thus, if someone was to think it was God's will for them to "live together" without marriage, he would be WRONG. To know God's will read the Ten Commandments, read Galatians chapter five about the fruits of the flesh and the fruit of the spirit, read the sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter five. Read the Bible. One of the best one volume books to help you understand the Christian faith is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It has a very good explanation of the Ten Commandments, for example, that would be good for all to read, even non-Catholics. If you wish you can order a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by clicking here. In short, God will us to love Him with are heart, mind and soul and to love our neighbor as ourselves. (Read 1 Corinthians 13 for a definition of love). It is God's will that we obey His teachings (John 21:25) and that we practice our faith (James chapter 2). This will get your started. God Bless,
