Question: Brother Ignatius, Today i prayed the Rosary outside in front of a New Age store. I offered each decade up for the closing of the store, i prayed that it would shut down and not lead any more souls astray. Have you heard of doing things like this before and is it beneficial, if so, could you explain to me how its benefits work and if you've had any successes with this? Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Matthew: It is a GREAT idea to pray the rosary outside of a New Age Store, Occult Store, Adult Store, Abortion Clinic, etc. This prayer strategy is very successful. For example, the famous naval battles, Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571, was won by virtue of the rosary. Our Lady of the Rosary devotion came from this. The Battle of Muret in 1213 was won attributed to the recitation of the Rosary by St. Dominic Pope Clement XI after the important victory over the Turks gained by Prince Eugene on August 6, 1716 (the feast of our Lady of the Snows), at Peterwardein in Hungary, commanded the feast of the Rosary to be celebrated by the universal Church. In one of the southern states, I do not remember which one, maybe Alabama or Louisiana, every abortion clinic in the state has been closed down, except one. This was the result of years of prayers and rosaries in front of abortion clinics. Prayer works, and the Rosary is the most powerful personal devotional prayer we have. The only prayers more powerful than the Rosary are the Liturgy of the Hours and the Holy Mass. How the rosary is so powerful is because it honors our Blessed Mother and her son Jesus Christ. When our Mother sees us so fervently petitioning her, especially through the Rosary, it moves her to intercede with her Son. Then, in accord with God's will, things happen. Now remember, the rosary is not magic. It is a petition, a prayer, that asks God for assistance or asks God to do something. What gets done, how it gets done, and when it gets done is a matter utterly up to the providence of God. Even if we do not see any obvious changes made (such as the store closing down), who knows how many souls have been saved without us knowing about it due to large measure because of our prayers. Our job is to persevere in our prayers. Thank you for your prayers and concerns on my health. I did not have surgery, though. I had an infection in my leg that could lead to amputation if not controlled. I was under mega-doses of IV antibiotics for ten days. This is part of my chronic illnesses so I am always in danger of things like this. Thanks for your continued prayers.
