Question:

Thank you for your speedy reply. I must tell you that today on my lunch hour here in NYC, I went to St. Agnes Church (which I find much more satisfying as it is "old fashioned" with altar kneelers, a lot of statues and candles, etc), went to Confession heard Mass and received the Holy Eucharist. After Mass, I lit five intercessory candles at Our Lady of Guadaloupe Shrine (me, my Uncle, and three other relatives). Why I have a deep problem attending Sunday and Holiday Mass at my own Parish (which I haven't registered with since moving in with my Uncle - maybe as it appears to modernized/Protestantized to me?), I don't know. I am on shaky grounds regarding that. However, if you remember my previous posting, I laways felt that evil influences keep me away from Sunday and Holiday Mass and I know Old Scratch will bother me some more.

By the way, no matter who I tell this to ever has a real comment, but looks at me like I am crazy or ignores me: On September 11, 2001, I saw that second plane slam in to the Tower. I was on a bus on the Expressway going to work. From the bus I saw tremendous amounts of expanding and risking smoke. In that smoke I saw a beautiful face and exclaimed that it was St. Michael.....then it changed into a horrible, hiddeous face and knew that was the Devil himself. My Uncle said I have an overactive imagination, only one person I spoke to said he saw it too. I think most people saw it but are afraid to talk about it. I just had to get that off my chest. Thank you.

Dear Diane:

I do not think you are crazy. I do not doubt a bit the possibility of seeing what you saw on 9/11. That was a terrible day. I imagine that there were thousands of angels (and demons) surrounding the Towers that day. There were certainly the guardian angels present of all who were there. It must have been a terrible experience for you to be that and see all that.

As for your parish, you are not required to attend your local parish. If there is another parish that is better for you, it is perfectly okay to go to Mass there. But do keep one thing in mind...

Even if the local parish appears modernized and does not give you the ambiance that one should expect in a Catholic Church, remember that Jesus is there in the tabernacle, He is there is the Mass. Even if the parish is messed up, Jesus is there. Ultimately that is all that counts.

In any event, you can choose another parish if you need to to fulfill your Sunday obligation.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
