Generalized harassment in society Ryan Wednesday, August 1, 2007

Question:

Hello to all!

I have a vague but personally applicable question to ask. Recently, I read a book based on a true story called "The Devil in Connecticut"... my understanding is that the Catholic church sued to have it stop being published (for reasons which I wont speculate here), so it was obtained second hand. Without going into too many details, in the book, the family of a possessed boy was portrayed as being harassed by the demons surrounding him (as dictated by the possesed boy). This harassment manifested itself as extreme irritability among everyone in the family as well as horribly uncharateristic arguing. I believe this has also been seen in other cases of possession.

My question pertains to this information. There have been many times when both my girlfriend and I have been caught in fights and said things that are totally uncharacteristic of both of us. While I have no illusions about the impact of emotions on what one says and does, when can one contribute such events as having "evil" influence? Since we cannot see the demons among us, how do we know if we are in a situation as described above in the book. Am I wrong to attribute some acts of "road rage" among people who are generally calm to direct "evil" intervention or influence by actual demons.

Any light you could shed on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Ryan:

It certainly does happen that a demonic presence in a home can cause tension and irritability.

As to know when this is occurring as opposed to normal factors contributing to irritability we need to eliminate all other possible explanations such as:

1) stress from work or school
2) stress from the relationship
3) stress in the family
4) doubts about the relationship
5) worries about health, finances, friends
6) anything else that might burden one's thoughts and emotions.

Uncharacteristic behavior such as saying words normally not said, making accusations normally not made, saying things one regrets are all things that are within the normal possibilities.

If all these factors are absent and the irritability seems to truly come from no where, then we have a clue to a possible demonic element.

It is also possible, however, to have normal irritability to which demons may decide to intrude upon to make matters worse than they need to be.

If you find yourself with uncharacteristic irritability examine yourself for possible reasons, but you may also pray to ask God, just in case, to remove any demon who may be poking his finger into your life and making things worse.

I also recommend that the CD, Sleep Sound in Jesus, by Michael Card be played throughout the day. Play it low enough that it blends into the background.

This CD seems to have a wonderful way of shooing off demons. The CD is a bunch of lullabies for children, but it works well for this purpose too. It tends to bring the tension of the house down a notch.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
