conflicting response from priests on ghost encounters Kerri Thursday, July 5, 2007

Question:

Why do some priests openly embrace the possiblity a person has seen a ghost, and some priests respond the opposite and will NOT discuss the possiblity, and claim it is ones imagination? How can this be, does'nt the church teach the same view on this to all priests?

I had two completely different responses from priests on this matter, and it left me puzzled on the subject. One priest was actually rude and cut me off when I went to talk to him about having an experience of a ghost.

I am a strong Catholic, who better to talk to than a priest? and he would not discuss it. Thank you-

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Kerri:

Well, what can I say? Some priests are misinformed, some are ignorant, some do not even believe there is a devil.

This is one of those areas that no one wants to talk about. As for seminary, the issues of spiritual warfare, hauntings, demonic manifestations and the like are rarely if ever even discussed. Priests are not trained at all on this issue.

I hope that someday, that some portion of the training curricula that we have in the St. Padre Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling will be included in the seminary training of every priest.

If you have questions or issues dealing with ghostly issues, demonic problems, or spiritual warfare of any kind, there may be a priest here or there who can help you a little, but very few priests know how to deal with these situations in detail. That is one reason why we founded the St. Padre Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling -- to fill that gapping hole left by priests who are either misinformed, ignorant, or too scared to deal with this. You can get answers from us.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
