Question: Dear Bro. Paul, I mean, I pray to St. Mike everyday to help me, even to my patron, St. Joe, but then this urge keeps coming back when i am alone. I am in college right now and am a student leader I want to preserve an integrated life - of living genuinely my vocation as student leader witnessing to Christ. What can you advise me? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Joe: Pornography is about an addictive as crack cocaine. This is something that you want to deal with immediately before you get in any deeper. Addiction to pornography is an issue of lust, compulsion, and often demonic influence. All three of these areas must be addressed to get a grip on this problem. The first measure is to avail yourself of the Sacraments as often as possible. When you fall go to Confession, even if that means going to Confession every week. When you are in a State of Grace receive the Eucharist. Even if you are not in a State of Grave, attend Mass anyway, just do not receive communion. Attend Mass daily if possible, spend time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, continue or develop your prayer devotions such as the rosary. In other words live the good devout Catholic life as best as you can. This is the foundation from which you can then begin to deal with this problem more specifically. Then, to get rid of any demonic element that might be hanging around, follow the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. From our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below, you should prayer prayers to rebuke particular spirits (in your case that includes spirits of lust, pornography, and homosexuality). Also pray the Hedge Prayer of Protection and any other prayers you see that may be helpful. Then, I recommend that you join our Catholic Support Group for Sexual Addictions Recovery. This is a group whereby members remain anonymous. The Group is designed to help each other to deal with this sort of problem. The BBS has sections with advice on strategies that have proven successful in helping people overcome this compulsion. You need to aggressive resolve to overcome these compulsions. It will take work and it will take time, but you can be free from this. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page. We suggest that before contacting us directly for help you try the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. These self-help steps will often resolve the problem. Also our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog contains many prayers that may be helpful. If needed you can ask for a Personal Consultation.
