I really need some help and I don't know what to do. Dylan Sunday, May 6, 2007

Question:

Hello,

I am a Roman Catholic and have always believed in God, but, since Tuesday May 1st (2007) I've have started doubting.

It really feels like there is some kind of demonic force behind it. I've been crying all week. It really feels like there is something trying to make me doubt.

For instance, when this started happening I went on the internet trying to find a solution to this. I saw on a Christian website (www.Bibleprobe.com) a video about several athiests who had Near Death Expiriances were they actually died and and went to Hell. The most touching one on the video was about an athiest named Howard Storm, who was in Paris and had some kind of physical ailment and died. He was attacked by demons but, then he said he heard his own voice saying, "pray to God", then he cried out, "Jesus, please save me!" and Jesus actually appeared to help and embranced him. He was later revived and became a Christian. That helped me but, then these demonic feelings and ideas started happening.

Then yesterday (May 5), I saw on EWTN about Our Lady of Fatima and that helped me but, then this morning (May 6) I started doubting again. This is really upsetting and I am afraid. I pray to Jesus and Mary to help and even St. Michael to battle these demons. I am crying constantly and I don't know what to do. I've talked to several local Priests but, they don't help.

I really and depressed over this and don't know what to do. I would really appreciate it if you could do anything.

Thank You.

Dear Dylan:

I guess my first question is what is so special about May 1st? You give such a specific date. Why May 1st? What was going on in your life on that day that could have possibly made you to start doubting?

Maybe the devil chose to begin harassing you on May 1st because May is the month of the Virgin Mary? I do not know.

In any event, you need to ignore your feelings of doubt and focus on what you KNOW to be true.  You know that God loves you because God says so in the Bible. God is not a liar. You know that God exists and that He gave us His Son for our sins.

Feelings will fool us. We need to remember what we know. We must focus on that.

St. Peter was able to walk on water as long as he focused on Jesus. When he took his eyes off Jesus and saw the storm around him he began to doubt and began to sink into the sea.

Keep your eyes upon Jesus. Know that He does not lie, but that He keeps His promises.

You may also want to pray a rebuking prayer to rebuke the spirit of doubt. In the prayer where it asks to replace the spirit that is being rebuked with the spirit of the opposite attribute, in your case, insert the spirit of confidence, knowledge and faith to oppose the spirit of doubt.

Keep remembering what you know to be true and not what you are feeling. Pray the rebuking prayer, pray the rosary. Ask God to give you faith.

I do not know why this is happening to you right now, but it will pass. Persevere in the Faith, hold on to the Truth that is God. He will get you through this.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
