Heaven bad? John A Sunday, April 29, 2007

Question:

I love the site keep it up : ) Anyways I was wondering what you think of this. Ever since I was a kid I have had nightmares about being in Heaven. In fact I have always been less afraid of Hell. I pretty much asked God to just give me a permanent death when I die. I have gotten to the point now where what happens, happens. I just live my life and try to help out where I can.

Have you ever encountered this before, if yes what was your experience with this?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear John:

Thanks for the kind words about our site; it is always good to hear our apostolate is useful to people.

I have not come across a person who had nightmares about heaven; its the first I have heard of this. Such negative dreams can only have two possible sources:

1) psychological: dreams tend to be the way the brain creatively processes fears, anxieties, and other matters that are in a person's life (conscious or unconscious). Thus, it is possible that this dream is psychologically generated from fear or anxiety (though it would be rare to be fearful of heaven. Usually the thought of heaven is comforting).

2) demonological: demons can mess with our imaginations and inspire thoughts, fears, and anxieties as a form of harassment.

Without knowing more about you I would guess that the second possibility is more likely, but of course, without interviewing you I cannot speculate as to why this is happening. In fact, it is possible that there is no reason why. Oftentimes evil harassments are just plain arbitrary and random.

I would suggest praying the Bedtime Prayer of Protection and perhaps Rebuking Particular Spirits. When praying the Rebuking prayer identify the spirits by attribute. In your case that may be the spirit of fear, the spirit of anxiety, the spirit of lies and deception. The part of the prayer that asks for the "opposite attributes" I would suggest the spirit of trust  and love to oppose the spirit of fear, the spirit of peace to oppose the spirit of anxiety, and the spirit of truth to oppose the spirit of lies and deception.

Try this prayer regime over a period of time and see if this helps any.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
