Son's bad dreams | Monica | Thursday, January 6, 2005 |
Question: Greetings dear Brother. My 11 year old son fears going to bed at night because of re-accuring nightmares concerning death, HIS DEATH. I have gone to our Pastor concerning this, and though he did speak to my son, he said the school counsolar (sp) is better able to deal with this. She said to speak to our Pastor. Neither one wants or feels qualified I guess. Could this be the devil's way of scaring my son?..I ask this because the closer I got to the Easter Vigil and my receiving the Sacraments, horrible thoughts and fears almost overwhelmed me and I almost quit. Praise God I did not. My son, who will be received into the church this Easter is now starting to have fears. Could this be the devil trying (and not making it) to keep him from God? Along with his prayer at night, I am now saying the St. Michael prayer with him. It gives him some comfort. Am I off base with this? If not, what more can I do for my son to give him comfort and security?. He knows God loves him, he just feels like God is not listening to him. Please help me with this. May God bless you Brother and thank you for your love and the sharing of our faith. Monica jmj |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Monica: Dreams are usually a creative way to express anxieties and fears. There may be something your son is fearing. On the other hand, if you are approaching full communion with the Church, it is possible that your son could be attacked. I would suggest praying with your son before he goes to bed as you are doing and include the Bedtime Prayer of Protection that is in our Prayer Catalog linked at the bottom of the page. Also, I suggest buying the CD called, Sleep Sound in Jesus (Gentle Lullabies for Baby). It is our experience that the music on this CD is effective in calming and protecting a child while he sleeps. You can set your CD player play this CD quietly in the background and to repeat it all night long. This CD is truly anointed. It works for adults too. Placing a blessed St. Benedict Medal on his bed post is good too, and also bless him with Holy Water. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page. We suggest that before contacting us directly for help you try the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. These self-help steps will often resolve the problem. Also our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog contains many prayers that may be helpful. If needed you can ask for a Personal Consultation.
