Question: I have a friend who claims she is has been under constant attack by demons for several years. Among MANY other things she claims to be lifted and thrown by external forces. I expressed to her that a start would be to sincerly repent of all sins and make frequent sacramental confessions. But she appears to becoming more and more disillusioned with the faith and is not interested in reconcilliation. The likely etiology for her ailment appears to be aggressive involvement with unmanaged individual and group Charismatic prayer. She has resigned herself to accepting the attacks as signs that she is upsetting the enemy through her intercessory prayers. Also when I asked her about this situation, her eyes (not just the eyeballs but the entire eyes) seemed to go into spasm. There may also be some (slight) mental illness involved here and from her comments I suspect she has been summarily dismissed as delusional by priests in the area (maybe part of the reason for the aversion to reconcilliation). What do you recommend? Contact me via e-mail if more information is required. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Christo: Sorry for the delay in answering. The only thing you should do directly is to refer her to the Self-Help section of our website linked below. Do NOT attempt to do deliverance yourself. The second thing you can do is to pray for her using the Spiritual Warfare Prayers found in our catalog linked below. You can pray that particular demons be cast from her. Identify the demons by their attributes, such as the demon of anger, demons of delusion, etc. This woman would appear to be in trouble. To begin to pull away from Church, and especially from Confession and the Eucharist is a serious sign of demonization when accompanied with the other symptoms you describe. It would be best for her to seek help. Unfortunately we are not taking new client until February or so; not sure when. But, no one can help her directly if she does not want help. We will certainly be in prayer for her. To all our readers, let this story of this poor woman be a warning. Be careful, very careful, of Charismatic prayer. It has been proven, and I mean proven, that many times those who are speaking in tongues and think they are praising God are actually cursing God. There are actual cases of this personally observed by priests and others who just happened to speak the "tongues" the person was speaking. I do not allow anyone to speak tongues over me -- ever: unless those tongues have been tested by a third party using the Biblical test, and even then I usually will not allow it. What can be prayed in tongues, can just as easily be prayed in a known language and be just as powerful. The idea that tongues makes the prayers more effective because it is spirit communication not involing our conscious mind that does not fully know the needs of the person is theologically flawed, if not heretical. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page. We suggest that before contacting us directly for help you try the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. These self-help steps will often resolve the problem. Also our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog contains many prayers that may be helpful. If needed you can ask for a Personal Consultation.
