Question: Blessings and thanks for reading my questions. From the time I was a little girl I've been able to sense spirits and absorb the emotions and energy of people, places and even animals. I avoid crowds because of all the over stimulating energy and therefore tend to be drained emotionally and physically even mentally. I converted to Catholicism and knew that I had come home. I am now experiencing a Dark Night of my Soul ordeal. I suffer from chronic pain, depression, anxiety. I am constantly drained being around my family. They bring so much negativity when they're around me. I just want a closer relationship with Christ and the Church, seeking His peace within my soul. None of my family attend Church or respect my decisions. I crave peace, and prefer to bless others and deny myself. I lived twelve years with my sister and her husband where strife, unrest, and so much hostility. While living there, I was soon seeing dark shadows darting around. I would feel sick in the pit of my stomach whenever they were seen. Being grabbed at night. Now that I have a home of my own, I think whatever was there has followed me. My new house is over one hundred and seventeen years old and is haunted. I need help. Do I have an attachment? Am I under oppression? Thanks and God bless you my brother in Christ! Within the Catholic Church we have all the tools that God provides to fight the spiritual war. I am sorry to hear that you are being harassed. The fact that you are drained emotionally and mentally with your experiences of absorbing "the emotions and energy of people" suggest that this experience is not coming from God. The source of this could be psychological or demonological, but such experience as a gift from God would not cause the emotional and physical draining. I suggest that you renounce these abilities and ask God to remove them. If the abilities persist then we know that it is not of God. As to what to do about it, I will mention in a moment. Seeing dark shadows darting around and being grabbed is certainly a clue to demonic activity. An environment of marital discord as you describe can sometimes attract demons seeking to egg it on. I suggest that you seek medical/psychological evaluation concerning your chronic pain, depression, and anxiety. Doing so may help you with these issues. There are several suggestions on what to do about the spiritual/demonological problems. 1) be the best Catholic you can be (Mass attendance, daily prayers and devotions, daily Bible reading, studying the Catechism, living a virtuous life) 2) go through our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below. 3) pray appropriate prayers from our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below. Especially note the Hedge Prayer of Protection for Self and the Rebuking Particular Spirits. Renew your Baptismal Promises daily and Put on the Armor of God daily. Also include the Prayer to our Guardian Angel to Watch Over Us. We should always ask our Guardian Angel for help.These are all in the Catalog. Use any other prayers that fit your situation. 4) ask a priest to come over to your house to bless it. If phenomena continues, then we can see about doing the House Blessing and Cleansing that is in the Prayer Catalog.
