Question:

Should I still make a total consecration (completed-no vow) if I still am plagued by habitual sin of porn and masturbation?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCD, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Richard:

Not only can you, but I suggest that you should make the consecration as it can help you with the habituation sin. The same is true to receiving communion. Our Lord in the Eucharist will strengthen you against the habitual sin. Of course, one must be in a state of grace before receiving our Lord. The same is true for the consecration — you should be in a state of grace before offering the consecration.

As with all of us, you will stumble and fall. That is why our Lord has given us the Sacrament of Confession. Use that Sacrament frequently.

As for the habitual sin itself, there is help. I suggest following the 20 Steps to Ensure a Pure Heart and Mind used by the Catholic Support Group for Sexual Addiction Recovery, the first support group of its kind on the Internet.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
