Could these Obsessive thoughts be Demonic? Stephan Saturday, August 19, 2017

Question:

I knew a girl decades ago in grade school. She was very pretty and I had a boyhood crush on her. She moved away after only a few months of knowing her and I quickly forgot about her. I literally never gave her another thought for over 35 years until 4 weeks ago.

Out of no where I began thinking about her and these thoughts won't stop. I don't dream about her, my dreams are normal, but from the time I wake up till I go to bed I can't stop these thoughts.

I have moments of depression over what might have been, and sometimes the thoughts are so intense I can't concentrate on anything else. These thoughts are very unwanted because I know I don't really won't to be with her. I love my wife and children. Could this be Demonic, and if so what can I do to get ride of it. The obsession seems to lift when I pray, at least in intensity.

Dear Stephen:

Well, from what you describe (e.g., "thoughts won't stop"; "depression over what might have been"; and especially, "thoughts are very unwanted") I'd say there is a possible demonic link here.

The demons may be attacking your marriage trying to get you to think about this girl and "what might have been." Such thoughts can be very troubling for a wife, and this dangerous to your marriage.

I would suggest that you rebuke the spirits behind this thought. I recommend the Rebuking Particular Spirits. The spirit in this case is the "spirit that is making you think of this girl". The spirit you want to replace that is "give me a spirit where I think only of my wife, of whom I love." Also rebuke the spirit of depression and ask God to give you instead a spirit of joy in your choice of a wife you love.
