Question: 1. What is your opinion of the above book by Fr. Dominic Szymanski? My particular version has ISBN 9781511631822 and publ. date of 17 October 2015. 2. What exactly is a private exorcism? 3. Can I perform the Leonine Exorcism over myself in a closed room while I am alone (that is on page 31 of the above book wherein it states "The laity may recite these prayers in order to curb the effects of the Devil") ?
Question Answered by Dear Eric: I do not have this book, so I cannot speak directly to whatever Fr. Dominic Szymanski has said. I tried to find a copy of the book, but could only find one available in Australia, which was going to cost over $50 because of postage. Speaking in general, a private exorcism is a "simple" exorcism as opposed to a "Solemn" exorcism that uses the official Rite of Exorcism of the Catholic Church and can only be performed by a Catholic priest, with faculties in a Roman Catholic or Eastern Catholic jurisdiction, with permission of his bishop. A general name for this simple exorcism is "deliverance." The Leonine Exorcism prayer cannot be used by laity as written. Instead, I refer you to our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below. It has the prayers you need. In addition is the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, also linked below.
