Familiar Spirits, Demonic Infestation Matthew Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Question:

1) I have had a neighbor who seems to know all my thoughts, it has turned into a nightmare. I have verified this for years. He knows things that he could not possibly know without being with me, and has even harassed me about experiences in my life I have told no one about.

2) He has in-law relatives who seem to share the same ability, though not to the same degree, who live across the street from him who have recently began harassing me when I became aware of the spiritual world and began praying Catholic prayers of protection and worship. These prayers are said in the complete privacy of my home in a normal tone of voice and sometimes silently. This harassment seems to be directly related to my prayers, the harassment has escalated the more I pray and seek protection from the 'familiar spirit' and its malignant allies. This problem has taken root in our neighborhood and has spread due to the actions of the people involved. None of them as far as I know are Catholic or Christian except for one family out of about 6 households.

3) I am a baptized Christian (Nazarene) and I have had some sins exposed by this spirit or whatever that I have told no one about, NO ONE. These sins were committed before I was baptized and through studying I was under the impression satan had no access to these sins.

4) Unfortunately no one explained the significance of baptism to me (not a good excuse, I know) and I fell back into a life of sin. The Lord has had mercy on me and has shown me, mostly through experience, the reality of the spiritual world and Jesus Christ's lordship over it. I have been reading and studying the Catholic church's doctrines and catechisms which seem to directly relate to my experience.

5) I have been to mental health professionals and none have helped and being of the world they, as far as I know, have no knowledge or experience of the spirit world and think it a bunch of hocus-pocus, but my experience tells me otherwise.

6) I was born into a Mormon community, my family had a long history with the Mormons. I was baptized a Mormon, but was never active. I'm not sure how this figures into my dilemma, but I have a feeling it does.

7) What would be your advice be as to how I should deal with these issues? I know they are complex when taken as a whole, so where would you advise I start?

8) I don't know if the local Catholic priest is a believer in the reality of satan/evil spirit or not. IF he isn't, where should I go from there?

Thank you for your time and advise. God bless.. Holy Mary, watch over us. St Michael protect us in battle.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Matthew:

I am sorry to hear about these troubles. I know that it is a hard thing to bear. Always remember that God loves you and is with you as you bear these trials and tribulations.

Concerning #1: No one can read our thoughts except God. It can seem like someone is reading our thoughts, but in actuality it is demons that are informing the person of the information.

Demons cannot read our thoughts either, so information they gather is by surveillance and inference. The demonic intelligence agency, as-it-were, watches everything we do from the time we are born to the time of our death. The "intelligence" they gather can be used against us.

Demons are very intelligent creatures. They can infer information about us in the same way a so-called psychic does (e.g., body language, reading between the lines of things we say, gathering information about us from other people). They can also connect-the-dots from our actions to infer our thoughts. But, demons cannot actually read thoughts without our permission.

Concerning #2: Demons are going to know about prayers, even silent prayers, to the Father that seeks to rebuke, bind, cast out, or bar them from harassing us. This is like calling the police on someone secretly. The perpetrators will know about it because the police will interfere with them.

When we seek to fight against the demons, things can get worse before they get better. The demons may turn up the heat with a goal that you will stop praying. You cannot let them wear you down. Persevere in the faith and in your prayers.

If the whole neighborhood is infected by these people, it may be wise to move to another neighborhood, if that is possible for you. In the meantime, I would pray for the protection of the neighborhood in addition to you and your family.

It is also important to pray for the persecutors as Jesus taught.

Concerning #3: Upon valid baptism all pre-baptism sins are forgiven and wiped clean from the universe (see 1 John 1:9).  Demons cannot know forgiven sins, but as mentioned under #1 above, they can infer what those sins might be. We humans can do the same thing, but not as accurately or with as much precision, when we see the character of a person and, though we cannot know for sure, we can infer that the person has committed this or that sin. Demons can see our weaknesses and vulnerabilities. With that they can infer what our sins were, but they cannot actually know forgiven sins.

Valid baptism, by the way, is the use of water touching the skin either by pouring or immersion, with the invocation of the Trinity, with the words, "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Ghost).

Concerning #4: I praise God that you have come to know that Jesus Christ is Lord over all, including the spiritual world. It is to Him that we look to for deliverance. He is the only one who can deliver us.

Christ, in his great love for us, gave us His Church, which is the Catholic Church (the fellowship of Christians under prime minister of King Jesus, the Pope). In His Church he gave us the Seven Sacraments, numerous sacramentals, the prayers of the Saints, and the ministry of His priests. Thus, the fullest and best protection from evil is within the Catholic Church by a person living the Sacramental Christ-life in devotion and in communion with all that the Catholic Church teaches.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd Edition, is a summary of what the Church teachings. To study it, even as a Protestant, will bring inspiration and grace.

If you are not Catholic, I encourage you to seek out a Catholic parish and investigate what must be done to be Confirmed in the Church and thereby come into full communion with the Church that Jesus personally established.

Concerning #5: There are some psychologist and psychiatrist who do understand the reality of the spiritual world, of demons and angels, but most have no clue. That is why it is best, if possible, to seek the help of Christian mental health professionals who do understand this (note: even some Christians do not understand).

Concerning #6: Well, the Mormon baptism was not valid. The family background in Mormonism can have a negative spiritual effect. We can renounce the sins of ancestors, and we can offer to "heal the family tree" (see prayers below).

Concerning #7 & #8: In the Catholic Church to not believe in the reality of Satan and his minions is to be a kind of a heretic (using the term informally). What that means is that the reality of Satan and his minions and the spiritual warfare that results is infallible teaching that no Catholic can deny. If such denial is made, then that person is not in communion with the Church and is barred from the Sacraments.

Unfortunately, there are some priests, and even bishops, who deny the reality of Satan.

But, that is not the primary problem. The problem is that most priests are not familiar about what to do about situations like yours, other than to offer a blessing of your home, a blessing of yourself and your family, perhaps a short prayer, and a little generic advice.

It is because most priests are not trained or even knowledgeable about these things to help people beyond the basics that our agency exists, the St. Padre Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling.

We have five ways to help you:

1) our Prayer Team, especially trained for spiritual warfare, will now begin to pray for you and will continue to pray for you.

2) We have a Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below, with many prayers that may help you.

3) We also have a self-help, Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below, that offers a way to find deliverance for yourself.
