Question:

Hi. I would like to know is it correct to pray by visualising certain ways for example : if i ask God to help me with a situation then picture God pouring power in the situation or resolving it . I heard a priest mention this kind of prayer but it sounds almost abit new age . Please tell me what you think

Dear John:

Visualization can be beneficial as long as it does not use the techniques typical of of the East (New Age). There is a Deacon who used guided imagery to help people to heal. This method was successful in helping people.

As long as you are not emptying your mind you can imagine our Lord, our Blessed Mother, or one of the Saints coming to our aid.

I am a little leary of the notion of "God pouring power in the situation". That does smack a little new agey. God, I believe, does not pour power into a situation, but blankets us with His grace and His assistance to resolve problems. I would avoid the "power" image and replace it with an image of God great grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness.

I hope this helps.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
