Genesis 3:15 | Ruth | Monday, December 27, 2004 |
Question: Hello Brother Ignasius Mary, In Genesis 3:15 it says "I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel." God is speaking to the serpent/devil. When God is referring to the devil's seed, does God mean the devil has actual physical offspring? That would not seem to follow the Catholic teaching that angels being spirit do not procreate. Is this to be taken as the devil's seed as being his followers? Who is the "seed" of the devil? Thank you and God bless you. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Ruth: You are correct, angels cannot procreate. The devil's "seed" refers to the devil's followers in the sense of those who follow ungodly ways, those who reject God. It is not merely those who deliberately worship Satan. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page.
