Question: Dear Brother, thank you for your great apostolate. Have you heard anything about LLLT, (Low Level Laser Light Therapy) and if there are any spiritual risks with using this technology as a means of pain management. It uses infrared or red light beams directed by machines into the area of pain. May God Bless you Brother
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD Dear Rose: As I understand it, LLLT has little effect beyond a placebo. The evidence is unclear at this time. It may have a mild effect upon pain, but it more traditional pain management therapies do a better job. At best it is experimental. I would be very wary of people offering this treatment. This is the sort of thing that is ripe for taking one's money without any significant benefit, making utterly ridicules claims without a shred of scientific evidence, and exploiting people's vulnerabilities to make a buck.
