Sonny: I have not generally used that sort of prayer, but I do know why Father is suggesting this prayer. We sometimes blame God for what happened to us or others. This prayer is not about God, it is about oneself. God has done nothing wrong, of course, but such a prayer helps our own psychology to overcome the resentment and anger we may have held against God. The need to forgive is never about the other person; it is about us. We must break the bondage caused by resentment, bitterness, and anger. In our counseling we talk about this and give our clients a pamphlet about forgiveness, entitled, Dealing with Bitterness and Unforgiveness. Although God has done nothing that needs our forgiveness, the principle is still the same — the purpose of forgiveness has little to do with the other person, but has everything to do with breaking the bondage of bitterness and unforgiveness and healing our souls. As I think about it, perhaps I should include this is the prayer to forgive (similar to Father's) that we use with our clients God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page. We suggest that before contacting us directly for help you try the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. These self-help steps will often resolve the problem. Also our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog contains many prayers that may be helpful. If needed you can ask for a Personal Consultation.
