How can clairvoyants get things right? Michelle Thursday, October 29, 2015

Question:

Hi.

I am a committed Catholic, but one parent uses a clairvoyant who has predicted some things correctly, such as me leaving the monastery I went to and thus turning up unexpectedly. This clairvoyant was also able to identify that an item was given to her belonging to someone other than my relative who was, I think, testing her.

I am struggling to resolve this inwardly as the latest is that I will marry and have a child. I feel burdened, as I want to live my life freely and I sometimes feel in my heart that I belong to God.

This clairvoyant apparently uses angels to bless the person and has said she will see me one day. This bothers me a lot; I spent 4 years as a nun and feel scared of losing my faith so much that I would see her.

How can this clairvoyant get things right? What should I do to resolve this?

Thank you for your help.

Dear Michelle:

Nobody knows the future except God. All others, including demons, are using tricks, techniques, and guesses when they claim to know the future. Seeking the services of a clairvoyant is a sin against the First Commandment and is grave sin. It is one of the worse sins (called divination) one can commit because if spits on the First Commandment to have no other gods before the True God. (Catechism 2115-2117)

The vast majority of predictions of clairvoyants are wrong. We just do not hear about them. As for correct predictions there are three possible reasons:

  1. the clairvoyant knowing the person's life through interview and research. The more information one has about someone the more accurate the prediction. This is a prediction, however, not knowledge of the future. Observing body language and prompting questioning is a common technique.
  2. coincidence
  3. demons informing the clairvoyant.  The demons do not know the future, but can make relatively accurate predictions because demons know more about us than we know of ourselves.

As for "predictions" of getting married someday, that is a cheap trick. Statistics tells us that you will likely get married. You might not, but it is a cheap prediction to make. Besides, predicting something like that may not happen until you are 70 years old. So it is an easy prediction to make to give the impression that the clairvoyant knows something, but by the time it happens or not, the clairvoyant will be long gone.

This clairvoyant is not using angels as angels would not violate the First Commandment. The angels used by this clairvoyant, if any spirits are actually there, are demons.

Do not listen to this nonsense. Tell your parent that using the services of a clairvoyant is grave sin. As for yourself, ask your parent not to ask the clairvoyant about you and under no circumstance tell you of any "predictions". You want nothing to do with it.

You are not burdened. God has given you free-will. He wants you to submit to His will and His grace. These "predictions" have no consequence. Whether or not you marry will be a free-will choice that you make. This clairvoyant does not know your future. Be not afraid.

Even though you are no longer under religious vows, you can still consecrate yourself to God as a lay celibate. Such a life is a blessing.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
