Question:

Why, in your opinion, is the Bible Code a form of divination and nonsense? Have you researched on it? Have you researched on Michael Drosnin (author of Bible Code I and II)
have you read both books?

Wouldnt you agree, that if indeed -as you stated- it is nonsense, that it is incredibly creative and awkwardly enough recognized by national security advisors and political leaders from different countries?

I would be seriously disappointed to find that your opinion is not based on strong facts and actual research, because the information that these books hold are a serious matter. And having a loud voice (like a website) rejecting and creating a form of cognitive dissonance towards this information just mentioned, is too a serious matter.

I appreciate your attention, and dont be affraid to bore me with your response, on the contrary please enlighten me.

PS By the way, Michael Drosnin (FYI) is not a religous person and clearly states that he doesnt believe in God, he is just a reporter.

Thank you,
Ian K.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Ian:

The so-called "Bible Code" is little different that trying to use "666" to say some person is the anti-Christ.

I remember one fellow who claimed that the Pope's title, "Vicar of God", added up to 666. Well, first off "Vicar of God" is NOT one of the Pope's titles and secondly to even try to be valid to a numerological sequence we would have to use Greek, not English, to figure out the 666 interpretation since that is the language to which the this number system applies.

Anyway, on a lark I decided to apply the number game on this fella's name who insisted that the Pope was 666. I am not kidding, this guy's name numbered out to 666. When I told him that, he never came back.

One writer gives a similar demonstration with the Bible Code:

The code is considered to exist only in the Hebrew Bible and not in translations or any other books. The code concept, however, can be easily demonstrated with English characters. Consider the following verse from the King James Version (KJV) of the Book of Genesis:
31:28And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

If you start at the R in "daughters," and skip over three letters to the O in "thou," and three more to the S in "hast," and so on, the hidden message "Roswell" is revealed!

The burden of proof is not on me or anyone else to prove that the Bible Code is nonsense. It is up to those who believe in the Bible Code to prove their position. Anytime one wishes to assert some secret or hidden message, the burden is always on them to prove it. This is not about proving that ancient Hebrews devised a "Bible Code", this is about proving that such a code has any veracity or meaning.

People who are predisposed to see elephants will see elephants in the clouds or in reflections in a window.

One of the primary rules of Thinking 101 is that "co-relation DOES NOT equal causation. Because there is a co-relation with the shape of clouds that might suggest an elephant does not mean there is an causal relationship. Same holds for the "Code" of the Bible passage above -- because there is a co-relation of a four step progression beginning at the "r" is daughters DOES NOT mean there is a causal relationship suggesting a hidden message; likewise in the so-called "Bible Code."

Such "codes" can be applied to any written work especially when one formulates rules to find what they have already decided they wish to find (like a message constructed out of every 5th letter).

Since the Bible Code is mathematical it might be wise to see what professional mathematicians have to say. See the article by Keith Devlin

Since you are a college man, I presume you are learning some things about how to think and the rules for logical and critical thinking and analysis. Thus you should know about the rule of "co-relation does not equal causation" and similar rules of critical thinking. Do not let the lust for mystery cloud your thinking.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
