Scripture Referencing Catholic Church The True Church | Terry | Sunday, January 11, 2015 |
Question: Hi Brother: I always hear Catholics, laity and clergy alike, say the Catholic Church is the one true Church because Peter was the first Pope and was told by Jesus that on this rock, he will build His church. It still doesn't say "Catjolic" church so I'm wondering how we deduce that? Thanks for clarifying. God bless, |

Dear Terry: The true Church in the fullness in the faith is the Church headed by the Pope, by those who sit in the Chair of Peter. That is how you tell. The word "Catholic" was applied to the Church under the Pope by St. Ignatius of Antioch in A.D. 107. He also told us to remain faithful to the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. At the time there was only one Church in existence, the Church under the Pope. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page.
