Question Title Posted By Question Date
Prayer of Renunciation Joe Monday, December 15, 2014

Question:

My friends and I have been trying out the Christlife series (http://christlife.org) in preparation of presenting the program to our parish next fall. All has gone very well so far and has been very spiritually fulfilling until last night. last night we prayed the prayer of renunciation:

I renounce Satan and all his works, and all of his empty promises, in the name of Jesus Christ. I renounce the spirit of (insert specific area where freedom is needed) in the name of Jesus Christ.

Some of us felt a bit anxious after this prayer time so, one of our group offered a prayer for all of us where he bound, loosed, and cast out Satan.

When my wife and I went to bed last night something very odd happened. I know this will sound very strange but I want to tell it as it happened. While lying in bed I imagined my wife covered in hair like a werewolf. When I prayed for Jesus to take that thought away, he did.

This morning my wife told me that when after our renunciation prayer time and when we went to bed she kept imagining the devil throwing her against the wall.

I am rather confused. Through this program we have been praying for the outpouring of The Holy Spirit and have renounced Satan. It almost seems like we have opened the door to the evil one.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Dear Joe:

You have not opened a door. You have, rather, dedicate yourself to God in a profound way. Whenever we take steps to get closer to God the devil may try to scare us to stop what we are doing to live the Christ-Life.

That is what is going on with your wife and yourself. You have to persevere through these attacks. In our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below, are prayers to help fight against these attacks, such as the Bedtime Prayer of Protection, the Hedge Prayer of Protection, Rebuking Particular Spirits, etc.

Keep doing what you are doing to live the Christ-Life. Put on the armor of God (Eph 6), pray your devotions,  pray spiritual warfare prayers, and persevere through the attacks. Most likely after a while when the devil realizes that you will not be intimidated the attack will stop.

We will also pray for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
