Movie with evil ceremony Rose Friday, November 21, 2014

Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius,

Hubby and I were looking for a video to watch, we tend to avoid mainstream TV for it's snares. We came across a movie called St Patrick the Irish Legend made in 2000.

We did not find any reviews on it from Catholic sources but decided to watch it given the title seemed respectful and hubby was getting impatient with me trying to find a respectable film to watch. There was a terrible scene of a druid ceremony worship with really offensive words (offensive to our faith) that I don't wish to repeat. It was difficult to get hubby to agree to turn film off, but I found the scene offensive.

I am concerned that having watched this scene we unwittingly exposed ourselves to evil and always mindful of your sandbox statement. Is there any danger of us being exposed by having watched this evil scene in our home? God Bless you Brother, and your apostolate.

Dear Rose:

I watched this movie the other day. I did not see anything in it that is a problem. The pagan ceremony was in the context of a bad and non-christian practice that St. Patrick came to stop and convert the people.

There are descriptions of pagan practices in the Bible. One famous one is that of Elijah who was involved in a contest in which pagan peoples tried to call upon their 'gods' to light the fire of an altar. Nothing happened. Elijah dowsed his altar with water and prayed to God and God lit the fire. I am reminded of that Biblical scene in this movie since St. Patrick, with the power of God, overcame the power of the pagans.

But, if you are creeped-out by the scene, or any scene from any movie or TV show, you can say a prayer like this:

In the name of the Father, and the Son +, and the Holy Spirit. Father in heaven protect me and my household from any demonic attachment or attraction that may have been present in watching this _________ (scene, movie, TV show). Cast away any evil spirits from me and my household never to return that may have come into my (our) live(s) from this __________ (scene, movie, TV show). Bless me and my house. Amen.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
