Question:

Hi Father.

I've been getting bad negtivie thoughts in my head.

Like thoughts to kill myself or role play in my mind of bad situations in my life. It was since last year around October I lost my job and from there Ive gone down hill. I've lost my passion what I loved to do. I have hurt myself but not to the point of drooling blood or anything like that.

I was wondering is there any pray I can say to God to help me?
I don't know if its the house Im living in or just me.

Have a good day

Regards

Alexandra

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Alexandra:

Just a note: I am but a brother-hermit, not a priest.

I am sorry to hear about your plight. What you are describing is depression and other psychological issues. You need to immediately make an appointment with a mental health professional. Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services, and the County Mental Health all charge on a sliding scale.

As for a prayer, here are three:

Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me! Strengthen me under the pressure of temptation. Strengthen me when principle is at stake. Strengthen me to do Your Will, My God. Strengthen me in moments of suffering, in times of loneliness, in periods of depression. Strengthen me that I may never swerve from You, dear Christ, nor weaken through human respect, through a desire to be popular, through hope of social distinction. Strengthen me to accept my cross and carry it generously to the end. On the battlefield of life, stand by me that I may never prove a traitor in the ranks. Stand by me that I may not be dazzled by the glitter and glow of the enemy camp. Amen

Eternal, Holy God, I come to You burdened
with worries, fears, doubts, and troubles.
Calm and quiet me with peace of mind.
Empty me of the anxiety that disturbs me,
of the concerns that weary my spirit,
and weigh heavy on my heart.

Loosen my grip on the disappointments
and grievances I hold on to so tightly.
Release me from the pain of past hurts,
of present anger and tension, of future fears.

Sometimes it's too much for me Lord -
too many demands and problems -
too much sadness, suffering, and stress.

Renew me spiritually and emotionally.
Give me new strength, hope, and confidence.
Prepare me to meet the constant struggles of
daily life with a deeper faith and trust in You.

Let Your love set me free . . . . for peace,
for joy, for grace, for life, for others . . . .
forever.
Amen.

Be sure to contact a mental health professional right away. We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
