Re: Sensitives and Those Gifted in Discernment of Spiri Michael Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Question:

Thank you for your response. To give a little more background, my wife is a Catholic but is wanted to end our marriage unless she is sterilized or unless we contracept and she won't change her mind on this regardless of what I show her that the Church teaches. I cannot give into either of these demands but she is so adament about this that I wonder if there is some kind of demonic temptation or activity going on in our marriage. How can I know if my wife is being influenced by the demonic and what can I do for my marriage since it is on the threshold of a divorce if I do not give into her demands, which I cannot do.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Michael:

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's decision. I am confused, however, about how any of this has to do with pictures. It would've been best to simply just ask the question outright.

Nevertheless, I applaud you for your diligence to adhere to Church teaching on marital sexuality. You cannot force your wife, however, to accept Church teaching. Not even God will force her to change her mind, though He will attempt to convince her with the help of your prayers.

It is not necessary for demons to be involved. Human beings are perfectly capable all by ourselves of being obstinate in our sinful views and behaviors. With that said it is certainly possible that a demon is hanging around her to take advantage of her sinful views.

If persuasion does not work, which apparently it hasn't, the only thing that remains for you to do is to pray for her. There is a prayer in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below, concerning praying for a wayword spouse. You can also pray proxy prayers for her including rebuking the spirits of sterilization, of contraception, and divorce. Any other prayers in the Catalog that are useful to you can also be prayed. While there may not be any demons at all involved in this you can still pray as if there might be.

We will certainly be in prayer for your situation. I know the kind of pain that you're under and, unfortunately, there may be much more pain to come. In the end if she does not change her mind it sounds like she will divorce you. You'll have to accept, continue to pray for her, and move on with your life. It is sad, but perhaps prayers for her will yet change her mind. We can hope for that.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
