Abbott Alois Wiesinger, O.C.S.O, on Occult Phenomena | Irene | Friday, January 10, 2014 |
Question: Are you familiar with Father Alois Wiesinger, a Trappist Monk, who did research on paranormal phenomena? Is it "safe" to read his book? He apparently deals with this topic from a catholic theological perspective. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC
Dear Irene: I am always a reluctant to recommend books of this type to those who are not involved in a deliverance apostolate. The reason for that is that so many people will read a book like this and think they're qualified to do deliverance or think they know something about spiritual warfare merely by reading a few books. That is not the case. The training that we give to potential deliverance counselors is three to four years long, which include a one year Internship. Then after graduation the person must spend three years in "residency" before they are let loose on their own. We have the most extensive training program in the world bar none in the Catholic or Protestant communities. But, to answer your question, this book, Occult Phenomena in the Light of Theology by Father Wiesinger, is a book that we use in our apostolate and training. Thus, it is one of our recommended books. The book does have an imprimatur. God Bless, P.S. Thank you for your prayers. My health is rather dodgy right now. I can only work for a couple hours a day on most days. I do have a followup with a cardiologist in a few weeks. Hopefully that appointment will give good news. But, there are many other problems that are chronic. Swelling in my feet (as a result of Neuropathy) wakes me out of a sound sleep about every two hours. I get up for about an hour and the swelling goes down, go back to bed, and two hours later I am up again. This goes on all night and day. Neuropathy in my some of my fingers is making it hard to type, but I do have Dragon Naturally Speaking, which is a dictation software. I just speak into a microphone and the computer types it for me. That is how this Q&A was answered. The cardiology issue is new as of last Spring. It is minor at the moment, but I may need a pace-maker eventually. My pulse various wildly. My pulse as been as low as 36 and as high as 100. My heart actually stops about 1.7 seconds from time to time. The doc said not to worry unless that gets over 2 seconds. As my health is problematic I am looking for people who can lead various parts of our apostolate when the time comes that I am incapacitated or "kick the bucket." Thus, I appreciate prayers not only for my health but for people who are willing to join our apostolate and be trained for leadership positions.
