Question:

Demon may not come out as long as he does not command directly in Jesus' name. If you can answer the question why?

Question Answered by

Dear Mario:

An imperative prayer (command) is a direct command to the demon (e.g., "I rebuke you demon of ______," "I cast you out demon of ______," etc.

However, demons may leave a person or place for a whole host of reasons besides a direct command.  Holy Water, Blessed medals, and other such sacramentals may drive some demons away. A house blessing or saying a Mass in a house may rid the house of demons. Sometimes a simple blessing over a person may cause some demons to leave.

Some demons will leave in what we call a Truth Encounter. With one person who was under attack by a demon of fear, I reminded him that his guardian angel was standing by his side at that very moment with his sword drawn to protect him. Once the man realized that bit of Truth the demon had no more hold on him and it left. That is a Truth Encounter.

Not every demon will leave that easily, as some demons are stronger than others. As Jesus said, some demons are so strong that it takes prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:2).

There is no one-size-fits all. The strongest demons will not come out with imperative commands in deliverance but rather require the SWAT team approach of a Solemn Exorcism authorized by the Bishop. Even in Solemn Exorcisms by the Church some demons will not come out until dozens or even 100s of exorcisms are performed. And, there are cases where some demons do to come out at all no matter what the Church does and the poor afflicted person remains possessed.

There is never any guarantee of freedom from demons, either in deliverance or in Solemn Exorcism. In deliverance work sometimes our clients are not fully freed. This is according to God's will for that person. In the case of St Paul who was being harassed by demons, St.Paul prayed three times for God to free him from those demons. Three times God said no. In this case the Scripture tells us that the reason God said no was to keep St. Paul humble (2 Cor 12: 7-10). It is the same with Solemn Exorcism. Some are never freed for whatever reasons that only God knows.

Each case is different; each case is determine by God according to His will for the afflicted person.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
