Friend is hearing voices Alex Wednesday, June 5, 2013

Question:

Hi. I have a friend who is a Baptist and who is hearing voices. He listens to subliminal messages and occasionally uses brainwave technology. I was wondering, what do you think I could tell him, to help him stop hearing these voices?

I think the cause of him hearing these voices is spiritual, by the way. It seems that he may turn to other things besides God, to help him with his problems.

He happens to be a former Catholic, who is struggling with different things, also. What do you think I should do, as a good Catholic, to help my friend? Should I point him back to the Church? Any advice or suggestions you give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God bless you.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Alex:

I would advise your friend to see a mental health professional. The most likely source of his "voices" is psychological or psychiatric (brain chemistry problems).

I would also advise him to stop his interest in the subliminal nonsense and the brainwave technology. In addition to the psychological/psychiatric issues, his "hobby" could attract demonic interests.

I would certainly encourage him to come back to the Church. If he is concerned about negative spiritual experiences the Catholic Church is the only place to truly and fully find healing and deliverance.

Finally, pray for him. We have a Wayward Catholic prayer and other prayers in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below.

We will pray for him also.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
