Sinning or temptations while sleeping Teresa Thursday, January 24, 2013

Question:

Dear Brother,

I have been having some dreams where I am possibly sinning. I have a sense of that. I wake up with the same un peace I have when I consciously know I have committed a sin. So I will confess it because I may be tempted during sleep. What are your thoughts on this what does the church have to say about it? What should I do?

I also learned to day how to empower yourself with the word of God. I always thought it as only inspired words and teachings of God but never as becoming the word such as confessing the word of God in our lives. Is this used a lot in deliverance and deliverance prayers it seems like it is. What are your thoughts I this ? Your insight and explaining the wisdom of the church has always been helpful and I thank you for that. Is empowering yourself by confessing the word of God in our daily lives brings upon healing of our wounds from sin trauma etc.. ? Thank you Brother!!!!

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Teresa:

No matter what your dream, it is not sin. We have no control over our dreams. Sin requires free consent. We do not consent to our dreams. Dreams just happen. Thus, there is no sin of any kind no matter the content of a dream.

We do have a Bedtime Protection Prayer that can be useful in terms of any demonic intrusion into dreams.

We can be empowered the more we learn about our God. A fundamental way to know our Father in Heaven is to read his love letter to us, which is the Bible. Bible reading and study is crucial to our spiritual growth and intimacy with God. There are a lot of prayers in the Bible, which we can pray also, such as the Book of Psalms. But, we can use any Scripture as a prayer. An important one is Ephesians 6:10-18 about putting on the Armor of God.

I recommend praying Psalm 23 and the Beatitudes (Matt. 5:1-12) like it was a medical prescription. Pray those two Scripture verses every day, but do not just pray them, study what the verses say and what they mean. Meditates upon them.

The more you get into the Bible, the stronger your faith will grow and the more healing you will experience.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

P.S. Also read and study the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
