Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius Mary,

Please excuse the inordinate amount of time it has taken me to get back to you. I wanted to thank you for your advice of a few months ago, which was very helpful. I went through a very difficult period compounded by something traumatic which threw me off the rails. I am now much better, having recovered both my faith and my reason, if still prone to anxiety.

Please would you pray for a friend of mine who said the other day "When someone says to me, Do you renounce Satan and all his empty promises, I am not really sure what to answer. People tell me that God is good and the devil is evil, but how am I REALLY to know?" (!) I hope he wasn't serious; but I rather suspect he was. I pray for him by name every day.

In Jesus and Mary,

David

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear David:

Sorry to take so long in responding.

I praise God that our apostolate has been of use to you. Remember to keep your eyes on Jesus, and not on the storms around you.

We will pray for your friend. Direct your friend to the Gospel and the Epistles. God always does good things. If anything is good, it is because of God. God is the very definition of good.

The devil is the very definition of evil and bad. Since God places the basic knowledge of good and evil in all people, anyone who cannot tell the difference between good and evil, at least in its basics, is in dire trouble, perhaps emotional illness, certainly spiritual illness.

The same goes for knowledge of who perpetrates good or evil.  Good = God / Evil = devil. It is that simple. The very nature of God is goodness and love (1 Cor 13). He cannot do anything but love. The devil's nature is evil and he cannot do anything other than evil.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
