What can be wrong with my wife? Gilbert Monday, September 17, 2012

Question:

Dear Brother,
My wife’s mother passed away 1995. We were praying a rosary for her mom's soul. My wife went to put son in crib when there were 3 knocks at the bedroom door. My wife very much frightened opened the door. Something invisible came down the hallway causing 3 posters to simultaneously start swinging.

Not being strong in the Catholic faith we went to ask Fr for help. Dismissed as mass hysteria. We spent the night at her sister’s and moved out of the duplex the next day.

Today.. my wife wants a divorce because I said she is imagining that I transformed (she mentions a figure with horns, a toad, etc). She has approached bishops/priests who say I need to repent, be tied down and prayed for a lot. At her plea I have been to our Diocese and explained what she said of me they say nothing is the matter with me. We tried the psychologist on two occasions (2012,2008), this last time she only went one time. She says she stopped loving me as of 2 years ago and that I have done other things that are untrue. I try to talk calmly, but she gets excited and raises her voice, talks over me and we get nowhere. Her blood pressure affects her for days after a ‘talk’.

For lack of knowledge we went to the seers, etc. , went to the ‘Christian’ church where ‘miracles’ happened. This was from around 2000-2006(the searching period). We still came to the Catholic celebration though. Since around 2006 we both decided we’d come back home. I confessed going to these other places and ‘Christian’ churches. I love Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

My wife’s past complaints are numerous: bad smells that she can only smell, figures going through the wall, woke me up on a couple of occasions complaining of being sexually molested by something else while in bed with me. She says she sees angels. She’s heard demons. She’s had bad dreams. Things going into her ears ( an authority prayer with the person in charge of exorcisms was done – wife said things were then coming out of her ears). . That night I thought she was dead, no movement all night long – I actually had to get really close to her to see if she was really breathing.

The LPC and the person in the Diocese think it could be related to the brutal beatings with a broom handle from her mother to the point of panting and sweating when she was small– until one day she says she stopped feeling any pain. My wife says her mother loved her and defends her.

Fr blessed the house recently and asked us to go to marital and spiritual counseling, my wife does not want to budge. I try to maintain holiness. I want to help her be free and I want to be able to sleep in the same bed again without any disturbances from her. It’s been a year now that we sleep separately, I ended in the ER with chest pains.

I have tried praying as a family, but my wife says the prayers are tricks and I use the Holy Rosary for evil. (that even the authority prayer by Deacon was a trick…!?)

Thank you.

Dear Gilbert:

If there are no psychiatric ailments with your wife, what you are describing fits the criteria of a demonic harassment and bondage with your wife, and maybe a demonic infestation of the house. If your wife suffered under severe abuse when she was a child, this could be an entry point for the demonic attachment.

The paranoia about the prayers being tricks could be a psychiatric manifestation, a demonic manifestation, or both.

Since you are the husband, and thereby the paterfamilias (head) of the household, you hold authority over your household. Thus, you should pray to protect your household and pray for your wife. The pertinent prayers are found in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below. The ones I have in mind are:

  • Prayer to our Guardian Angel to Watch Over Us
  • Prayer to St. Michael for Protection
  • Hedge Prayer for Protection of Household
  • Prayer to the Household Guardian Angels
  • Rebuking Particular Spirits Affecting the Household
  • Resisting Satan’s Attack Against Our Household
  • Breaking Household Curses and Spells
  • Prayer for Marriage
  • Hedge Prayer for Return of those who are Wayward from Us
  • Hedge Prayer for Protection of Others

There are versions of some of these prayer for the individual. Your wife should pray those. If she will not prayer then you can pray these two proxy prayer on her behalf:

  • Proxy Deliverance Prayer for a Friend or Relative
  • Rebuking Particular Spirits-Proxy

Then you can listen to Fr. Machado's "Priestly Prayer of Deliverance", found in the Prayer Catalog, with the intention that the Deliverance Prayer he says will be for your wife. It would be best if she did this for herself, of course. If you need this for yourself, then make the intention for yourself as well.

Any of these prayers can be said as often as you need. Of course, if you come under harassment, the "individual" versions of these prayers are recommended for yourself.

The Rebuking Particular Spirits prayer refers to rebuking specific demons that you may think are present in the house or with your wife, or harassing you. Identify these spirits bay their attribute, such as spirit of lust, anger, divorce, etc.

Ultimately, your wife cannot be helped directly if she does not want help. God does not force anyone to receive help. But, your prayers, and ours (will we put your wife on our prayer list), make break the fog that is around her so that she may respond to the Holy Spirit.

If she would do it, she should follow our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below. After doing that, if there is no improvement, then, if she was willing, we could place her into formal deliverance counseling with our agency when we have an opening. But, again, she needs to come forward and ask for help herself.

It is also possible, if you wish, to call us for a one-time consultation. If you wish to do that, you can make an appointment at Request an Appointment. I am booked all this week, but can take appointments next week, the week beginning with the 23rd.

We will be praying for you and your wife.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
