Picture Seems Alive Deanna Sunday, September 16, 2012

Question:

Hello Brother--

I have a picture that is among many others (such as various holy cards of different saints and postcards from pilgrimage destinations) of The Blessed Virgin Mary, and this picture changes expressions frequently as I sit about ten feet away while I pray the rosary and other prayers. The face itself is a little over an inch across. I know that this is partly due to optical illusion, but the expressions themselves seem to correspond to what I’m praying at the time, or doing, like if I stop to take a little break, and pet my dog, I will catch the face in the picture watching me do this.

If I get up from where I am sitting, and take a closer look at the picture, it looks normal, and if I stay close to the picture to pray, it stays normal, and doesn’t display the various expressions that it does when I go back to my position about 10 feet away.

The expressions are usually hostile, and when I pray prayers that are designed to separate someone from Satan (such as deliverance prayers for myself and family members), the expressions can get very worried, depressed, cross, resentful, angry, etc.

Also, the face will almost always quickly change back to normal in about a second (or at least closer to normal) when it knows it’s been seen, like “You didn’t really see that—you actually saw this”—even though the original expression when I looked at it initially was markedly different.

I’d like to know if this happens to other people, and what it is that I’m actually seeing. I myself feel that I am seeing the faces of demons that use the face in the picture to observe me (as crazy as that sounds). One of the reasons I believe that this is the case is because when I pray in the evening when the light from outside isn’t as bright, and the room is badly lit, the face will keep the expressions even when I look at it steadily, as if has lost it’s ability to see me seeing it, and doesn’t react with the usual “getting busted” effect that it displays in better lighting.

I removed a picture of Jesus that I had that was quite a bit bigger due to this effect, and then this other picture of Our Lady took up the “job”. Please tell me if this has happened to anyone else that you know of. I am not mentally ill, as far as I know (my husband and other people I know consider me sane—at least as sane as most).

Dear Deanna:

This sounds like the effects of optical illusions and your imagination. Those two effects can cause a multitude of weirdness. To stare at anything long enough can cause the effects you are describing.

If there reallly is something going on, it is a demonic effect. For one thing, an angel, our Lady, or our Lord would not have an expression of "depressed, cross, resentful, angry" when you pray a deliverance prayer.

Bless the objects and continue your prayers. Right now you are expecting to see something, and so you will. You are spooking yourself. Unless there are other things happening in the house I think this is just optical illusion and imagination.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
