Question: This situation is strange and may seem far-fetched, but it is causing me trouble and I would appreciate any help to regain my peace of mind. A few weeks ago, I had a large candy bar sitting in a backpack in my room. The next day, the wrapper was on the floor, and it wAs gone. I assumed one of my dogs had eaten it, so I induced vomiting in both of them, but neither of them had eaten the chocolate(my vet assured me it would have been visible in their vomit), and neither had anyone in my family. Today, I came home to find the contents of my backpack strewn around the floor. A prayerbook I had inside the backpack had been dragged to the other side of the house. Around my backpack were laying some strange brown/black seed-looking things that were unidentifiable and extremely hard. The same things were lying around the candy bar wrapper. Neither of my dogs has chewed anything in years (both are quite sluggish). I have no explanation for these situations. Could a demon be possessing me and making me do these things, or simply harassing me. Is my family safe? I have OCD and have obsessive thoughts about satanic things, but have never practiced satanism.
Question Answered by Dear Jordan: These strange events do not imply that you are possessed. There is a lot more to it to even suspect possession. Assuming a rational explanation fails to explain these things, it is possible you are experiencing a poltergeist phenomena, or otherwise experiencing some demonic harassment. In poltergeist phenomena there is usually a pubescent child present in the house (usually a girl). The strange events, in that case, could be focused on that child. The phenomena will be strongest near the child and tend to dissipate the farther away the child is to the events. There are many theories for this, including that the libidinal energies of a child going through puberty can cause telekinetic events. The phenomena usually stops once the child is through puberty. These events can also be demonic harassment. For some reason, or for no reason, your family or house my be targeted. Evil is often arbitrary, thus there may not be a specific "why". What you need to do is for you and you family to live the best Catholic life you know how to live. Be devout and loyal to the Church, celebrate Mass weekly and Confession frequently. Read and study the Bible, do your daily prayers and devotions. Do all that good, loyal, and devout Catholics usually do. I would advise following our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below. In addition, you would do well to have your house blessed by a priest. If the phenomena continues, I would advise the more intense House Cleansing and Blessing. This blessing can be done yourself, or I can lead you through it on the phone, or your local priest can do it. We find that a lot of priests will not do this. That is why we offer to help you through the blessing on the phone, while you do the physical parts like going room to room blessed each room with Holy Water, Holy Salt, and a St. Benedict medal. Do not be afraid. God is more powerful than any demon. Also remember that your Guardian Angel is standing by your side right at this moment. Ask him for protection and guidance. These strange events do not imply that you are possessed. There is a lot more to it to even suspect possession.
